| TIA Master Plan
Update - William R. “Randy” Forister A.A.E., CCIM
Join us on Wednesday, October 18th as we get the latest update on the ma ssive Phase 1 projects and a look ahead to the exciting key elements of the Phase 2 program. From exterior finish es at the Economy Garage SkyConnect to concrete poured on the outdoor terra ce to new landscaping at the post office, TIA is building your future airpo rt, today! The final plan, approved in 2013, outlines t hree phases of expansion to accommodate 35 million passengers each year, mo re than double the current number of annual passengers. It allows a “ build as demand dictates” approach to growth, with phases based on pa ssenger volume. The first phase takes care of immediate needs to decongest the curbsides, roads and Main Terminal. It includes a 2.6 million-square-fo ot consolidated rental center near the entrance to the airport, a 1.4-mile automated people mover and an expansion of the Main Terminal. The project i s expected to create or save nearly 9,000 construction-related jobs. Tampa International Airport's Phase 2 proposal includes a curbside expansion with new express lanes for passengers without checked baggage and 17-acre commercial development around the rental car center. Th e development area includes a new office building, convenience store with g as station, hotel as well as a commercial curb to accommodate transit and o ther ground transportation. Phase II also includes new connections to regio nal trail networks. A new Airside D with 16 gates capable of handling both domestic and international flights, and international passenger processing facilities remain part of Phase 3, which is scheduled to begin sometime aft er 2020. Together, the three phases of the Master Plan will allow the airpo rt to serve 34 million passengers each year – nearly double the numbe r we serve today – in our existing footprint. Pending approval by the Airport Board, site preparation on the commercial development is slated to begin in mid-2018. Curbside construction is scheduled to begin in late 201 9 and end in 2023.
